Principal’s Message
As we begin March, several items are on the horizon.
First, report cards will go home on March 19th and we
will have achievement day exercises on Thursday, March 20th
at 1:15 P.M. in the auditorium. Parents are encouraged to attend
this event. Second, our CRCT testing will begin on April 21st
and that is only 25 school days away. It is so important that
students be ready for this testing as it will be a part in
determining promotion for many students. We hope each student takes
the tests seriously and does their very best.

Last month, we informed you on what research says
about daily attendance and how it correlates with higher performance
in the classroom. We still encourage all students to have perfect
attendance if possible. According to Board Policy, children cannot
be absent more than 10 days per semester or 20 days per year. Also,
in order for the school to make Annual Yearly Progress (AYP), our
school must ensure that the number of students that have accumulated
15 days or more does not exceed 15% of the student population. This
includes excused and unexcused absences.
In February, there were 4 students that had
already missed 15 days and 19 students approaching 15 absences. At
this time, there are 6 students that have missed 15 days and 27
students who are approaching 15 absences.
As we stress the importance of daily attendance,
we ask that you make sure that your child comes to school on time
every day. If you have any questions in regards to your child’s
attendance, please contact the school.

Mrs. Nunn’s class conducted a survey
of the entire school asking students to share their favorite
elective class between Art, P.E. and Music. Once they received all
of the data, they created a bar graph for each grade level. Third,
fourth and fifth grade students chose Art! The students enjoyed
this fun activity while covering one of their mathematics standards
on graphing. The following is the actual graph that the class
created based on the survey.

Hunt Elementary Spelling Bee
Hunt Elementary hosted their annual Spelling Bee on January 23,
2008. The students listed below from the 4th and 5th
grade represented their classrooms. The 4th graders were
Jaquez Paster, Kelderick Jackson, Brenda Ortiz, Terrikah Hollis,
Mariela Rodriquez and Alexia Green. The 5th graders were
Rudy Lopez , Juan Gayosso, Hannah Gutowski, Michael Hicks, Brianna
Jones and Andre Abner.
Congratulations to Hannah Gutowski from the 5th
grade in Mrs. Finn’s homeroom for being the Hunt Elementary Spelling
Bee winner for 2 years in a row! We would also like to congratulate
Mariela Rodriquez from the 4th grade in Ms. Ezell’s
homeroom for being the runner-up! These two students will attend the
Peach County Spelling Bee at a later date and Hannah will represent
Hunt Elementary at that competition. We are
proud of them as well as all of the
contestants that participated. We thank the caller
for this event, Mrs. Malakius, and the Georgia Association of
Educators for sponsoring this event.

Fourth
graders are working on CRCT skills to prepare for the upcoming CRCT
test. Please talk to your children about the importance of this test
and how it determines whether or not they pass or fail.

For
Black History Month, the 3rd graders decorated their hallway with
quilts they had drawn. When creating the quilts, the students were
able to make connections to two different areas of study. First,
the quilt blocks were all made with geometric shapes, which helped
the students fulfill part of their Math Geometry Standards. The
students also learned that quilts can tell a story. They listened
to Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt and then wrote their own
responses to that story. Some students created stories for the
classroom quilts that they helped design. By reading, listening, and
responding to literature, students met many of the requirements for
the ELA Reading and Writing Standards.
Plans are now being made for the 3rd Grade field trip
in April. We will go to The Rock Ranch, which is located near
Thomaston, GA, on Thursday April 3, 2008. On our trip, we will study
habitats and life cycles. We will also learn how all living things
are connected to one another through the web of life. Our weekly
popcorn sales will help us cover the expenses of the trip for all
students, so keep buying
that popcorn!

DRESS CODE!!! DRESS CODE!!!!
Students
who are neatly and cleanly dressed often behave better and
display a more serious attitude toward the important business of
teaching and learning; therefore all students enrolled in Hunt
Elementary School shall abide by the dress code.
Belts shall be worn each day and any student that
is not in dress code will be asked to call home for appropriate
apparel.
